David Stone's Mom, Nella K. Stone 1924-2009

            

Nella K. Stone, 85, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at a local hospital.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday
, Dec. 30, at The Waterford of Pantego, 2650 W. Park Row, Pantego. Spring burial: Mexico Village Cemetery, Mexico, New York.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marion Medical Mission, 1412 Shawnee Drive, Marion, Ill. 62959.

Nella was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Utica, N.Y., to David G. Kilbourn and Grace Williams Kilbourn. She had been a resident of The Waterford of Pantego since September 2007. She graduated from Clinton (New York) High School in 1942 and then from Crouse-Irving Nursing School, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1946. She practiced nursing in Utica, Hamilton and Rochester, New York.

Nella married Frederic A. Stone on Sept. 20, 1947, in Clinton, N.Y. She supported her husband while he completed college and medical school. She relocated on numerous occasions in her husband's military and medical careers.

Her interests and hobbies included playing the cello, cross stitch, calligraphy, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Sackets Harbor, N.Y., Henderson Harbor (New York) Yacht Club; Jefferson County (New York) Historical Society; First Presbyterian Church choir, Watertown, N.Y.; Northern New York Choral Society; Little Theatre, Sumter, S.C.; medical missions, Embangweni, Malawi, 1992-1994; state of New York Medical Society; Presbytery of Northern New York; and volunteering as a nurse for Boy Scouts of America national jamborees.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David J. Kilbourn and Judson J. Kilbourn.

Survivors: Husband, Frederic A. Stone; sons, Allen F. Stone and Mahna Salter of Seattle, Wash., Brian J. Stone and Marianne of Newport, Mich., Judson I. Stone and Janice of Arlington, Stephen M. Stone and Marigene of Monroe, Mich., and David A. Stone and Trina of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pattie Kilbourn Lacey of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
